What to Do After You Hit Publish: The Ultimate Blog Promotion Checklist
You’ve researched your topic. You’ve written the draft. You’ve edited + proofread. You’ve run through the 10 pre-publish essentials we shared here. And then — voila! — you hit PUBLISH!
But before you kick your feet up, it’s time to refresh your coffee situation + get back to the screen for one final post-publish push.
Publishing a blog post is only the first step! To maximize its impact + minimize the total amount of time + effort you need to expend, you need to promote + track the post’s performance in an intentional timeframe so that you get your messaging out to the people who need it most.
We know you’re busy + your family needs you, so here’s your straight-to-the-point post-publish checklist to ensure your content reaches the right audience + drives engagement.
Let’s get into it:

No. 1 - Share on Pinterest
Pinterest is a powerful tool for blog traffic because like Google + YouTube, it’s actually a search engine not a social media platform.
This means that when you link your blog post with high-performing target keywords + image alt text, your content will show up when people search for it intentionally in the search bar. This is different from social media where people likely show up to scroll + happen upon your content.
Pin your blog post image to:
- A dedicated board for your blog content.
- Relevant niche boards.
- Group boards (if applicable).
If you followed our Pre-Publish Checklist, you will have already written your image description in the alt text. Now you literally just pin your blog post on Pinterest + the description populates automatically so that you don’t have to write a separate caption. Yay for double-duty!
No. 2 - Create + Schedule Pins for Ongoing Promotion
Pinterest prefers steady, consistent activity rather than bursts of pinning. Add fresh new images for a few days/weeks following the post publishing.
Instead of repeatedly pinning the same image (which the Pinterest algorithm hates), create multiple unique pin designs for the same blog post.
Each fresh pin should have:
- A different image (even if the post is the same)
- A varied title + description (Pinterest reads text overlays)
- A mix of video + static pins (video pins get more engagement)
The easiest way to do this is by using Canva: an easy drag-and-drop editor for graphics + videos that can easily change the image sizes, fonts, colors, etc. to match your brand, be search engine friendly, schedule posts on social media + even most recently do nearly all of the work for you by using AI!

(Here are examples of simply changing out the text + images on a template for Pinterest. If you’re interested in a tutorial on Canva specifically, let us know in the comments!)
No. 3 - Share on Social Media
As soon as possible after publishing, share your post! Let the world know your work exists.
The most popular platforms are:
- Facebook: your page, groups you own, + personal profile where appropriate.
- X (formerly Twitter): multiple times over a few days to catch different time zones.
- LinkedIn: if the post is relevant to a professional audience.
- Instagram: via posts, Stories, or even Reels, if applicable.
Want to know what social post works the best? The one you actually hit publish on.
If you’re not sure where to begin with posting on social media - which platform, video vs. static, etc. - then here’s our suggestion: Create a short-form video teaser. And don’t overthink it!
Turn your blog post into a bite-sized video summary. Share a key takeaway, a surprising fact, or a quick how-to from your post in an engaging 30-60 second clip. End with a call to action directing viewers to read the full post.
Platforms like Instagram Reels, TikTok, + YouTube Shorts are great for reaching new audiences. And you can use the same video shared across all 3 channels. Boom!
No. 4 - Engage With Your Audience
Encourage interaction by:
- Responding to comments on your blog + social media.
- Asking follow-up questions to spark discussion.
- Thanking the readers for sharing your post.
If your post receives any engagement from your audience, make an effort to respond to them!
When people have questions or are extra intentional about writing to you, investing a few minutes in relationship-building is a great way to build a stronger readership, more engagement, + friendships with people who will return for future content because they feel valued.
No. 5 - Repurpose Your Content
Maximize your post’s reach by turning it into:
- A Facebook or Instagram Live discussion.
- An X or Facebook thread summarizing key points.
- A short-form video for TikTok or YouTube Shorts.
Public speaking is the world’s most popular fear — second only to death. So when I suggest going LIVE to promote your blog post, please stick with me for a minute…
Some people LOVE to read + lucky for them, you’ve just written a blog post where they can do exactly that. Others, though? They might prefer to watch or listen.
And this is where your pushing through any potential jitters about going LIVE becomes WORTH IT because you expand your content’s reach to an equally deserving (+ capable of converting!) audience.
Let your blog post be your general guide for a “script” — being careful not just to read word-for-word. Keep your post in front of you as a reference for talking points + let your enthusiasm encourage the watch-and-listen crew to take a peek at your link if they’re interested in learning more.

No. 6 - Monitor Post Performance
Check your analytics to track:
- Page views: how many pages did readers click around to once they arrived?
- Traffic sources: where did your readers originate from?
- Engagement levels: shares, comments, time spent on the post.
- Conversion rates: email signups, product purchases, etc.
At the start of each month, look at your Google Analytics data from the previous month to identify which posts attracted the most views. While you’re at it, review the posts with the highest number of comments as well.
These insights can reveal valuable trends in audience engagement. You might start noticing patterns about certain topics, which can help you understand what resonates with your readers + perhaps most importantly, what doesn’t.
Refine your editorial calendar with this information (if you’re the planning type!) or simply keep the keywords in mind as you create even more compelling content on the fly.
No. 7 - Update + Re-share Over Time
After a month or two:
- Repin the post on Pinterest with another set of fresh graphics.
- Share it again on social media.
- Update any outdated information + refresh the content for continued relevance.
This tip is highly underutilized. Resharing is the key to keeping your content alive + keeping your sanity!
Publishing a blog post is just the beginning—if you want it to reach its full potential, you must reshare it consistently. Too many bloggers hit “publish” + move on, assuming their audience will naturally find the content. The reality? Even your most engaged readers likely missed it the first time.
Resharing extends the lifespan of your post + ensures it gets in front of new eyes over time. Schedule regular resharing across platforms—social media, email newsletters, + even repurposing it into new formats like reels, threads, or carousel posts.
Bring older content back into rotation
Don’t be afraid to bring older content back into rotation alongside your most recently published post, especially if it’s evergreen or seasonally relevant. When you offer your followers a “you might also like these posts” suggestion, you are showing them yet another way you are a helpful resource.
Well-written posts deserve more than a one-and-done share; treat them like an asset that continues to work for you long after publication.
No. 8 - Add the Post Link to Your Email Newsletter
If you have an email list (which we highly recommend!), feature your post in your next newsletter to drive traffic + engagement from your subscribers.

No. 9 - Share in Like-Minded Online Communities
Where do your readers hang out online when they aren’t consuming your content?
Find Facebook groups, Mighty Networks, Circle communities, Reddit threads, LinkedIn groups, or other niche forums where your ideal audience members gather + respond with your post link as the genuine answer to questions asked inside there.
No one likes a shameless self-promoter in any in-person group — let alone an online community that likely has rules written strictly against that.
HOWEVER, when you’re truly supportive + knowledgeable about a topic AND can offer expanded advice through a link you happen to have… then there’s no reason that can’t be a thoughtful, approved contribution.
No. 10 - Pitch Your Blog Post for Podcast or Newsletter Features
Want to stretch your blog post for the ultimate promotion? Reach out to podcasters or newsletter curators in your niche + offer your blog post as a resource for their audience. You can pitch yourself as a guest for a short discussion on the topic or suggest they include your post in their next curated content roundup. This expands your reach + builds credibility exponentially when you match with the right audience.
Final Thoughts
By following this checklist, you’ll ensure that your blog post doesn’t just sit unnoticed, but actively works to grow your audience + brand long after you’re done working on the initial composition.
