Do you take vitamins + supplements daily?

If you’ve been inconsistent or wanting to refresh your daily vitamin + supplement routine, then this post is the perfect resource for getting started!

Today, we’re sharing a list of the vitamins + supplements we take on a daily basis PLUS a couple of additional wellness practices we find as a helpful complement to those daily intakes. As parent entrepreneurs with full hearts + full workloads, we appreciate all of the support quality vitamins + supplements can offer us.

You too? Let’s go!

Our List of Daily Vitamins + Supplements

No. 1 — Once Daily Multivitamin

For Women: MyKind Organics Prenatal Once Daily Vitamin

MyKind Organics Prenatal Once Daily Vitamin is a general women’s daily prenatal vitamin made from organic whole foods.

Check what ingredients are in your current prenatal vitamin to make sure they’re good for you specifically. In general, most people benefit from consuming “whole food” vitamin sources wherever possible (not synthetic)

[Side note: Just a little bit of synthetics can be enough to throw hormones for a loop — negatively impacting moods + fertility, to name a few.]

But, more specifically, some hormones + body chemistries require different ingredients. Speak with your functional medicine doctor about the best blend for you.

For example, “the MTHFR defect, which some say affects up to 50-60 percent of the population, makes it difficult for your body to convert folic acid (and even folate) into a usable form (called methylation). Because folate deficiencies are associated with some birth defects such as spina bifida and neural tube defects, it’s vital to know if you have the MTHFR mutation and, if so, to take the right form of prenatal when you are pregnant.” — Mama Natural blog post

Note: Check out Courtney’s Prenatal Vitamin Checklist to start determining if this particular prenatal is the best fit for you or to be sure you’re getting all of the essential ingredients in the one you ultimately do pick!

For Men: MyKind Organics Men’s Once Daily Wholefood Vitamin

MyKind Organics Men’s Once Daily Vitamin is a general men’s daily whole food vitamin made from organic ingredients.

Similar to mom’s, we want anything going into dad’s body to be as “whole food” as possible as synthetics can be enough to throw male hormones for a loop just as much as female hormones.

Note: Refreshing your daily vitamins + supplements as a prenatal activity to do together as partners can be a great way to step into upcoming parenthood!

No. 2 — MyKind Organics Calcium Supplement

Calcium needs magnesium to absorb properly, but not all calcium supplements actually include magnesium!

MyKind Organics’ calcium has D3 + magnesium, which makes the calcium absorption optimal here.

Beyond that, magnesium helps regulate blood sugar levels. Your body needs magnesium to make + store energy, too.

If you’re feeling chronically exhausted, you’re likely magnesium-deficient.

Note for moms: If you’re nursing or breastfeeding, your calcium stores can get depleted from your body prioritizing giving calcium to your growing baby. So, if you’re not making sure your calcium supply is strong, your teeth + bones can take the hit!

Your maternal body will always prioritize nourishing the baby + calcium does not replenish itself within the body naturally. That’s what makes this supplement so critical for the nursing mom.

No. 3 — Nordic Naturals Omega-3

These Omega-3 capsules from Nordic Naturals are the most tolerable fish oils (without the fish smell + taste) we’ve encountered so far.

Some benefits of Omega 3 are:

  • Reducing risk of osteoporosis + bone loss
  • Reducing the risk of heart disease + causes of death associated with heart disease
  • Decreasing severity of symptoms associated with diabetes

Source: The Importance of Omega-3 Fish Oil

Note: These are not vegan + you can absolutely achieve omega-3’s from a plant-based diet (hemp seeds, flax seeds, walnuts, brussel sprouts, etc.).

Update: We do currently source most of our omega-3’s from food sources these days, but when we were early in starting our new family, we were the biggest fans of Nordic Naturals + do still keep some on-hand!

No. 4 — PINES Organic Alfalfa

PINES Organic Alfalfa Tablets give the body the nutrients that we usually get from a serving of deep-green, leafy vegetables.

According to McKel ____, RD + Founder of Nutrition Stripped, deep-green, leafy vegetables host vitamins C, K + E, calcium, manganese, potassium, beta-carotene + antioxidants. They also include fiber, which regulates our satiety, blood sugar levels, bowel movements + helps improve our overall digestion. If you’re looking for more education around How to Eat More Vegetables and Greens Throughout Your Day, then check out her corresponding blog post.

When we want to be extra sure that we’re taking enough veggies in, this organic alfalfa is pure peace of mind. Added benefit: alfalfa helps with inflammation big-time!

No. 5 — Natural Vitality Calm Magnesium Supplement

Instead of winding down with junk food or a glass of wine on a particularly stressful night, we warm up hot water + have a mug of Natural Vitality Calm Magnesium Supplement.

Natural Vitality Calm’s Magnesium Supplement is delicious + true to the name. We find this drink to be so calming! We highly recommend the raspberry-lemon flavor over any of the other choices.

Note: This particular supplement is magnesium citrate + potentially not the best kind of magnesium to have daily in the long term. So, just use this like you would a glass of wine! It’s one of Courtney’s absolute favorite pregnancy-safe supplement hacks.

Additional Wellness Practices We Recommend

We want to ensure that your daily vitamin + supplement routines are getting the maximum mileage for you as a parent entrepreneur. So, in addition to setting reminders for taking vitamins + supplements consistently, we also want to share the additional wellness practices we recommend doing in conjunction with consuming those quality nutritional boosts.

Continue reading for some of our favorite wellness practices that could complement your regimen + help you experience the maximum benefits.

No. 1 — Epsom Salts Baths

Epsom salts offer that highly-coveted magnesium + help detox your body’s accumulation of both internal + external toxins.

What we love about Epsom salts baths is that when you’re in the practice of eliminating toxins by using them, you’re essentially clean-sweeping the junk out to make room for the quality ingredients to move in. It’s so much easier to vacuum a playroom when the toys are all off of the floor. In this same way, it’s much easier for vitamins + supplements to do their maintenance job well when they’re not tripping over a bunch of obstructions.

What’s more: Epsom salts can give your body such an incredible health overhaul for a fraction of some of the most expensive therapies.

When you’re pregnant, Epsom salt baths offer a sweet bonding-with-the-baby experience (while detoxing your skin + minimizing hemorrhoids!).

Additionally, epsom salt baths feel so great during postpartum recovery. Your baby can even soak with you!

No. 2 — Chiropractor

If you’re not already seeing a chiropractor, then this additional wellness practice might be the most game-changing one of your life.

We’ve found that investing in a chiropractor’s services will pay off in dividends + are usually at least partially covered by health insurance depending on your plan.

Chiropractic care focuses on two major systems in your body: the musculoskeletal system + the nervous system. When you get a physical chiropractic adjustment, you’re correcting small misalignments (called “subluxations”) in your musculoskeletal system (like your muscles + bones) that affect your body’s ability to heal + function well throughout the nervous system.

When you live with “subluxations”, you’re often bottlenecking your body functionality + productivity, just like rush hour traffic. However, when you correct those “subluxations”, you’re essentially opening up the highway lanes of your nerves to operate at the speed limit (or faster!). When you are taking the appropriate vitamins + supplements for your body type, those are what travel through your musculoskeletal + nervous systems to help you function optimally.

Additionally, Courtney’s back ends up bent in all compromising positions from pregnancy + then bedsharing + breastfeeding + chasing children — let alone sitting at a computer desk or up to a podcast microphone — all of which chiropractors can readjust!

Kevin is at his desk significantly more during the day with his corporate career + then marathon training at night. He’s found chiropractic to be a simple way to maximize mobility in addition to alleviating his once awful allergies.

In general, chiropractic adjustments boost immunity + make sure your physical alignment isn’t challenging your sleep quality, moods, breastmilk supply, etc.

Courtney has only been sick once in 6 years + that was because she missed several appointments with the chiropractor!

“Health is an investment, not an expense.”

Vitamins + supplements add up quickly dollar-wise, but we compare it to the expense we’d be paying if we ended up going to the ER for a breakdown + all the inconvenience costs that come with it.

Vitamins + supplements are well worth the investment, especially if they’re made with clean, organic ingredients.

Think of those daily inputs + additional wellness practices as your parent tune-up — you’re definitely worth the investment!

How about you — what daily vitamins + supplements are a part of your wellness practice?
